About Helen Sarah Wellman
Helen S. Wellman, 73, West Point, died at 11:35 p.m., Wed., Sept. 30, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center, Burlington. She was born July 8, 1925, at West Point, the daughter of Thomas and Amanda Sweeney Bradford. She married Andrew B. Wellman, Sept. 9, 1943 at St. Mary's Church in West Point. He survives. She had been a lifelong resident of West Point and had been a cook for the American Legion in West Point for several years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, both in West Point. Besides her husband, she is survived by five sons, Michael, Tony and Bill, all of Fort Madison, Leroy, West Point and Martin, Denmark; 11 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Darlene) Bengston, Denmark and Mrs. Harold (Nadine) Bonar, Wever. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Sat., Oct. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Point, with Rev. David Wilkening officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials were made to the American Cancer Society.
