Hendrick first appears in the Baltimore County Maryland land records in 1664, when he and John Alkemore agreed with John Collett for the sale of 300 acres "Elk Neck" at Gunpowder River.

Hendrick was naturalized on 6 June 1674 by an act of the legislature.

By 5 November 1679, he was married to Christiana, as evidenced by a deed whereby they conveyed 100 acres "Enlose Loyce" on the north side of Back River to John Boaring.

He acquired 100 acres Tryangle Neck in May 1673, 100 acres Swallow Fork in May 1683, 150 acres The Oblong in June 1687, and 33 acres Low Lands in March 1687.

On 28 August 1682 "Hendrick Inloes of Middle River, Baltimore Co" conveyed 100 acres at Swallow Fork to his son-in-law John Fuller for 4000 pounds of tobacco (John Fuller later sold this land to Hendrick Enloes Jr). On 4 August 1702 Hendrick and Christina conveyed 150 acres "Oblong" on Middle Creek to William Holland.

In Hendrick's will, dated 10 December 1707 and proved on 18 May 1708, he named his wife Christian and five of his children including Hester as heirs.

Hendrick had 5 children: (1) Henry, married Mary, was alive in Kent county in 1728; (2) Abraham, died 1709 in Baltimore County, married Eliza, had children; (3) John, died before his father, married Elizabeth, had two sons; (4) Hester, my ancestor; and (5) Margaret, married first William Galloway, and second married James Durham.

NATURALIZATION

Henry and more than twenty others were naturalized by an act in Maryland in June 1674. In it is mentioned "Henry Enloes...under the Dominions of the States Generall of the United Prouinces". [ This refers to the United Provinces of the Netherlands which was formed under the Union of Utrecht (1579).] It stated that the governor of the province of Maryland could "grant lands vnto any person of French Dutch Spanish Swedish or other forreigne discent in the same and in a ample manner and vppon the same tearmes and Provisoes as he was thereby impowred to grand lands to any person or persons of Brittish or Irish discent." Each of the names indiviudals, including "Henry Inloes", would "henceforth be adjudged Reputed and taken as natureall borne people of this Prouince of Maryland".

LAND CALLED SWALLOW FORK

(From Thomas A. Enloe)

This land was originally surveyed for Hendrick Inloes on 3 May 1673. The land was conveyed to John Fuller on 28 Aug 1682, then to Henry Enloes Jr. on 19 Jul 1687. At some point Henry Jr. must have conveyed it to John Enloes, son of Henry Sr. The Lord Baltimore Rent Rolls for a period circa 1705 or later show the land to be "possessed by John Leakins for Inloes Orphans". John died in 1702/03 and his widow married John Leakins. In 1724 Henry Inloes conveyed the land to Bloyce Wright. This latter Henry is assumed to be one of the four orphans of John.

Hendrick (Henry) is well documented in the Lord Baltimore, Gunpowder Manor area. This area is now Baltimore, Maryland. He received land for his own transportation into the area, and purchased or received or leased other areas of land as well. He first appeared in 1658 in the "New Netherlands" (now Delaware) tax records. He received 200 acres of patented land in Gunpowder Manor in 1661. It is interesting to note that Hendrick left items to two of his grandchildren in his will. By name they are Moses Galloway and Christian Wright. In documents pertaining to Hendrick (aka: Henry) he is referred to as a "planter."

The will of Hendrick, the form of spelling at the time held intact.
