About Hendrik Jacobus Zwanepoel
Hendrik "Jaco" Zwanepoel (1969 - 2003)
Brief overview:
Jaco (34), was killed only hours after he had proposed to his girlfriend, Marietjie Brummer.
Armed men arrived just after 8pm at Nando's near Menlyn centre on Saturday night, 8th Dec. One man robbed the cashier while another turned his attention to Zwanepoel and Brummer who were sitting at a table waiting for their take-away order to be made up.
He allegedly demanded cellphones and cash. Brummer said afterwards that she tried to hide her cellphone, upon which the suspect allegedly pointed his firearm at her. This spurred Zwanepoel, who was a martial arts instructor in Centurion, into action and he lunged at the suspect. He was shot dead. The man whom he attacked was also shot dead, apparently in crossfire.
