Hendrik Petrus Riaan van der Walt (1965 - 2009)
Brief overview:
Hendrik, known as Riaan (44), an artisan who worked at Polokwane Smelters, was shot dead whilst at a family birthday braai/barbeque for his wife Wilma, on Suikerfontein farm outside Modimolle around 21h30 on 6th March 2009. Police capt. Malesela Mogale said the deadly shot was fired from a .308 hunting rifle which was found in the bushes near the crime. The investigating police officers traced the gangs’ tracks the nearby Phagameng township. Nothing was robbed.
The perpetrators fled immediately after the shooting.
It was determined that a single shot was fired and killed van der Walt where he was standing at the braai.
