Hennie (47), who lived in Dan Piennarville, Krugersdorp, was shot outside his house on Sunday 19th January 2014. His wife, Monique, had opened the electronic gate, and when she turned around she saw two unknown men standing there. One of the men was armed and he pointed the gun at her and demanded that she give them her handbag and mobile phone. Hennie came out of the house and saw what was happening, and approached the men, and a struggle ensued. Two shots were fired, both of which hit Hennie.
His brother, JD, saw his brother being shot and immediately called a private ambulance. As the operator couldn't understand what JD was requesting, and he knew that Hennie was losing a lot of blood, he and Monique rushed him by car to the Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital.
"He was pushed into theater so the doctors could stop the bleeding, but he did not survive and died in the operating theatre at around 18h30," said JD.
Rinie Oosthuizen, public relations officer for GPF Sector 3 says they express their condolences to the family and next of kin. "It's always sad for us to lose someone to crime."
Hennie leaves behind his mother, wife, three children, one brother and three sisters.
