(zuni lan:) Henoch was my Moms second husband. His first wife and one or two
daughters were killed by the Germans in Poland. ( He used to draw his
daughter, doodle, whenever talking on the phone).
He had been in the Polish Army and initially captured by the Russians
when they were allies of the Germans and sent to a work camp (Gulag?)
When the Russians made peace with the Poles he remained in a work
camp. He hated anything related to Russia - obviously. He was born in a
place called Galecia. My Uncles didnt talk to my Mom for some time as
there had been a rift between the Galecias and Lithuanians Jews.
After the war he worked with the red cross helping survivors in Israel
( I think) where he met his second wife who was English. He was a
geographer teacher by profession who was amazing - taking and
explaining my Mom all over the world. In Israel he couldn't find work
as a teacher and had a painting company. Henoch died shortly after my Mom of Colon Cancer and in buried in Pinelands, Cape Town
(sam lan:) Henoch was a kind, educated soft spoken man who was a very wonderful companion to Goldie in her latter years.
(becky sacks:) Henoch grew up in Krakow, Poland. He studies Geography and I think he was a teacher. During the war he was a prisoner of war in Siberia and then emigrated to Israel. His first wife died after the birth of her son Jossi Lieberfreund. He left for South Africa to be with his wife’s sister in Johannesburg. At this stage he met Goldie and they married in 1964.
