BEGA, Sunday. - News has been received of the death at Suva, Fiji, of Mr. Gus Arnold, formerly of Bega. Deceased had lately suffered amputation of one leg above the knee through gangrene setting in, and appeared to be doing well, but died suddenly on May 23 from a clot of blood on the heart. ARNOLD formerly of Bega, died at Suva, Fiji, on May 23rd. A couple of month's ago he had one of his legs amputated above the knee, and appeared to be getting along alright until the date mentioned, when he died suddenly from a cloth of blood on the heart. The late Mr. Arnold will probably be well remembered by a number here, as he used to visit Delegate regularly when he owned the old Bega brewery ; and later on was a regular visitor to the local races as a bookmaker. Reports to hand state that a couple of months ago he had one of his legs amputated above the knee. The operation was said to have been successful. On the day named however, other symtoms of a serious nature were notic- eable ; he was taken ill suddenly, and expired in a few hours. Death is assigned to heart failure. The deceased would probably be better known in these parts as a bookmaker.
