About Henry Ball, Sr.

GEDCOM Note

Francis McGuire said that H. Ball had five boys and at lest one girl. The 1850 Census showed that he had two boys and three girls. Also the census shows that he just remarried to a M. M. ??? I belive her maiden name was maybe a Thompson, because there was a female by the name of R. A. Thompson, age 19 was living there with them. R. Hatton, Ast. Marshall took the census at their home on the 2nd of August, 1850, and listed H. Ball's occupation as a farmer. There was 268 homes and families that lived in Orange Township, with a population of 785 males and 780 females that lived there, with infant babies of 5 males and 7 females for a total population of 1577. It took nine days to take the survey, starting on 29th of July, 1850 and ending on 6th of August, 1850. When Henry came to the area that is now Orange Township, Carroll County, it was part of the Territory North of River Ohio or the area could have been changed to Washington County (named after our first president), but the township was called the "One Leg Township" After looking at the 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850 Census I have come to the conclusion that Henry Ball that came from Virginia had six boys and seven girls by two wives and married a third by the name of Mary M. (Carter) Ball and had at lest one child by the name of Sarah Jane Ball. Henry came to the Conotton Valley around 1803, along with William Ball. They where about the third settlers to settle near Leesburgh, Ohio which is now called Leesville do to the fact that there was about two other towns with the name of Leesburgh in Ohio. It was name Leesburgh after the town of Leesburgh, Virginia. From Dan Newell's memory of his notes, Henry Ball Sr. at the death of his first wife (he thinks that Henry just married twice) Henry remarried again but this time out of the faith of the Quakers so the Quakers disciplined him. The name of the young lady ( she was twice as young as he was) was Mary M. Carter a Methodist. Dan Newell made a trip to Loudoun County, Va. and stopped in at the Loudoun County Library. Where he located a book on the Quaker Balls of Loudoun County. Dan writes "The compiler includes only one record which shows a child of Henry Ball; a James R. Ball, son of Henry and Jane Ratiken Ball granted to Smithfield Monthly Meeting (Jefferson County, Oh.) to marry Mary Ann Talbot on October 20, 1835.

Possible married to Mary M. Carter in 1849.
