John Brandling, (grandson of William Brandling, by Mary, sister and co-heir of [blank] Browne, "Captaine of Callice," and son of Robert Brandling, by a daughter of William Selbie) was sheriff of Newcastle in 1505, and mayor in 1509, 1512, 1516, and 1520. He married Elizabeth, daughter of William Helye, and had issue:
[3rd son] Henry, plaintiff (10th Elizabeth) in a trial at York, against his nephew, William Brandling, for part of the family estate.
He married first, Margaret, daughter of Christopher Midford, alderman of Newcastle, and had a son, Robert, who left issue, and a daughter, married to [blank] Selby, esq.
He wedded secondly, Ursula, daughter and heiress of William Buckton, esq. of Buckton, in the county of York, and relict of George Collingwood, esq. of Eslington, by whom he left at his decease in 1578:

Henry Brandling (1515–1578) was Sheriff of Newcastle in 1566 and mayor of the city in 1568, 1575 and 1576.
