About Henry Kenneth Carver

Henry Kenneth Carver, 88, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Fehr officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the funeral home.

Henry was born in Rodney, Iowa, the son of Benjamin and Tina (Leming) Carver. He joined the U.S. military service in 1941 and was in Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He received three bronze stars for his service in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 915.

On Feb. 14, 1945, he married Marjorie Teague. Henry and Marjorie raised their family in the Riverside area of Sioux City. She died on July 2, 1996, in Sioux City. Henry worked as a butcher for Armour Co. in Sioux City until it closed. He then worked for Johnson Construction Company building golf courses all over the country.

Henry was baptized into Christ as a small child and had been a member of Gethsemanee Lutheran Church in North Sioux City since 2000.

He enjoyed doing woodcutting and working with chainsaws.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn and Roger Williams of Omaha, Cheryl and Sam Parker and Linda Carver, all of Sioux City; four sons, Harrison and Jolene Carver of Des Moines, Jerry and Linda Carver, Larry Carver and Rick Carver, all of Sioux City; a sister, Ruth Richardson of Katie, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Tina Carver; and his wife, Marjorie.
