Obituary: Teutopolis Press - October 29, 1931
Mr Riesenbeck Dead
Henry G Riesenbeck, died at Home in the west part of Teutopolis Sunday afternoon at one thirty o'clock, October 25th, 1931, of infirmities of old age.
Funeral services were held at St Francis Church, Tuesday morning, October 27th at 9 o'clock followed by burial of the remains in parish Cemetery. Relatives, neighbors, friends and St Peter's Men's Sodality of which he was a member attended the services. Father Angelus Zwiesler, OFM officiated.
Deceased was born in Covington, Ky, July 23rd, 1849, making his age at time of death 82 years, 3 months and 2 days. His parents were John Henry Riesenbeck and Mary Thomann who came from Lutten, amt Vechta, Oldenburg, Germany to Covington, Ky, in 1846, crossing the ocean on a sail boat for a number of weeks.
His father died in 1854. Later on his mother married Louis Poggemann. In 1856 the family came to Teutopolis and settled in the south part of town.
Grownup to manhood he was married to Mrs Rieman, nee Elizabeth Kabbes. A child of this union passed away quit young. After the death of his first wife, deceased married Miss Sophia Koester of Hessenborg, Pommern, Germany, April 3rd 1878 at Sigel. Five children were born to them. Two are dead, Bernard Fred died at the age of two years, and George, died at Rockford, Ill, nine years ago.
The living children are: Mrs Joseph (Kate) Leddy of Oregon, Ill, Mrs Wm (Minnie) Maurath of Peoria, Ill. Besides the children, he is survived by his wife, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one half brother, Joseph Poggemann of Teutopolis and two nieces: Mrs Tom Wolley and Mrs Charles Steppe both of Dieterich.
Mr Riesenbeck was of a jovial disposition well liked in company by his ready witticism and fine singing of old German songs as some older people will no doubt remember. He gained his living by manual labor doing odds and ends as occasion presented itself. He was a crossing watchman at Siemer's Mill for a number of years until the limit of age. May he rest in peace
