Henry Lawrence Green

VERNAL - Henry L. Green, 78, a member of the city council for the past four years, was instantly killed Saturday at 10 a.m. by the accidental discharge of a shotgun. The charge struck him in the head.

Mr. Green went to the garage at the rear of his house to get his car, preparatory to making a trip to Vernal. When he left the house he was carrying a shotgun, belonging to one of his employees on the farm, which he intended to take to its owner. Officer who investigated said Mr. Green apparently was attempting to place the weapon, stock foremost, into the automobile when it accidentally discharged.

Dr. Wallace Calder, whose dental office is near the scene of the accident, was attracted by the explosion of the weapon and rushed to Mr. Green's aid. The shotgun lay at the front of the machine, while Mr. Green's body was well toward the rear. He was dead when Dr. Calder arrived.

Mr. Green was born at South Cottonwood, December 10, 1864, the son of Robert and Eliza Green. He had been a resident of Vernal for 40 years. He is survived by his widow and three daughters, Mrs. James Thivers, Mrs. Levi Williams, Mrs. Richard Slaugh and Evelyn Green, all of Vernal.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Vernal Second ward chapel.
