About Henry (Ifabiyi) Doherty
A.K.A. Baba Oko (Farm man) from Balogun /Adeika ruling house of Ilaro.
Captured by slave raiders in Lagos. Returned to Lagos, Nigeria via Sierra Leone.
Married his wife, Helena Ariwoola Fatiregun a.k.a. Mama Ijero a.k.a. later titled Eyeloja of Ijero-Ekiti at Water Loo, Sierra Leone before returning to Nigeria.
Engaged in various trades through the course of his life.
Devout Christian who actively engaged in church activities. Served as catechist of Saint Peter's Church in Faji, Lagos and at Christ Church in Marina, Lagos. Served as church warden at Christ Church Cathedral, Lagos in 1867 under Reverend James A. Lamb - church minister.
Signatory to documents transferring land on which Christ Church Cathedral is built from then governor of Lagos.
Signatory to record that documented ceremonies relating to the laying of the foundation stone of the church dated Friday, 29th of March 1867. A copy of this document was placed in a tin box along with coins and placed in a recess under the foundation stone by the church administrator.
His grandson, Justice Richard Adeeko Doherty later served as Chancellor of the Lagos Diocese from 1944-1956.
