About Henry Andrew Jacobs
1850 Census shows him as age 8 months (listed as "Andrew") living in De Pere with parents Herman and Wilhelmina, (listed as "Armenia") both age 34, and brother Jacob, age 11 (listed as "Cobus", probably a misspelling of Jacobus). The rest of the household includes brothers and sisters Jacob age 20; Theodore age 8, Albert age 6; Mary (Wilhelmina) age 4; and John age 3. Item from the Big Stone Headlight, June 20, 1929: Grandpa Jacobs Passes Away The Big Stone community has lost another of it's pioneer settlers when Henry Jacobs passed away at 12:46 am Tuesday. Mr. Jacobs had been in poor health for several years past but still has been around for a good share of the time. In fact he had walked up town a number times during recent weeks. Monday night he was up and visiting with callers while sitting on the porch of his son John's house, where he has made his home. After the visitors had left he retired to his room and to bed. Later on he must have gotten out of bed as members of the family who had not retired heard him fall to the floor and upon going to his room found that he had passed away. Mr Jacobs was born at Scott, Wisconsin, November 22, 1849 and at his death had attained the age of 79 years, six months and 26 days. He was married in 1871 to Mary van der Heyden. In 1889 they came to Grant County settling in Big Stone Twp., where he bought a farm on which they lived for a number of years and then moving to Big Stone City. Mrs. Jacobs passed away December 5, 1917. During his residence in Big Stone Twp. Mr. Jacobs was active in town affairs, holding town office for a number of years. After moving to town he served eight years on the city council. Of the children born to Mr. and Mrs Jacobs there are living at this time John and Frank of this place, Mrs. John Garrity of Hibbing, Minn., Mrs. Joe Korstjens of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, William, who resides in the state of Washington, Herman of Fordville, North Dakota, and Joe of Duluth, Minn. Of these Mrs. Garrity and her husband, and Herman Jacobs are here to attend the funeral. No word has been received from the others up to the time of going to press. The funeral will be conducted Friday morning, at 9:15 at the house and 9:30 at St. Charles. The body will be laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Catholic cemetery west of town.
