The Rev. Henry Jajeski, pastor of the Polish parish of St. Casimir, in St. Paul, met a tragic death on March 4, 1916. While seated in the confessional on a Saturday evening, he was shot, and instantly killed by a demented woman. This unfortunate woman has been committed to the State Asylum for the insane at St. Peter, Minn. Father Jajeski was born at Skos in Prussian Poland, on November 27, 1857, and was brought to this country when a child. He studied at St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn., and at the Grand Seminary of Montreal, where he was ordained, December 22, 1883, He was pastor at Minnesota Lake and Wilno, and in 1892 he was called to St, Paul where he founded St. Casimir's parish. From 1894 to 1914 he was pastor of the Holy Cross Polish parish in Minneapolis and then was again placed in charge of St. Casimir's. Father Jajeski was a very efficient organizer and was much beloved by his parishoners, who were horrified and exceedingly grieved at his sudden and tragic death.
