Henry Leverington
Mr. Henry Leverington, who died at North Kensington Park, was born at Mitcham 87 years ago, being the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leverington. He later resided at Second Valley, where his father had purchased a farm. After his father's death he returned to Mitcham and while he was there married Miss Prudencia Porter in 1871. He then returned to his mother's farm at Second Valley, which he farmed successfully for 19 years. In 1893 he purchased a farm, known as Brookside, at Yankalilla. Leaving there in 1907 and living at Athelstone for a short period, when he bought the property at North Kensington Park, where he resided until his death. He took an active interest in the Methodist churches at Second Valley and Normanville. Besides being a local preacher, he was Sunday school superintendent for 20 years at these churches, and at various times filled most positions in his church. He was also interested in temperance work, being president and vice-president of the Band of Hope at Second Valley and Yankalilla, and was for many years a member of the Rechabite Lodge. He has left a widow, five sons and three daughters —Messrs. Joseph H. and Henry J. (Brighton), Lloyd J. (Yankalilla), Herbert P. (Bletchley), Archibald H. (Magill), Mesdames M. P. Lands (Evandale), E. J. Leverington (Payneham), and E. R. Platten (North Plympton). Two daughters, Mrs. R. Dunstall and Miss Amy Leverington, predeceased him. There are 24 grand children and 29 great-grandchildren.
