http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SOUTH-AFRICA-EASTERN-...
'Grandfather Lloyd, presumably the father of the Settler, was private secretary to Lord Mansfield, and at the time of the riots in England he saved some valuable papers, for which he received a pension of £500 a year for life. He never wore a great-coat in his life, nor changed his style of dr ess from his youth, which was knee-breeches, silk stocki ngs, silver buckles on his shoes and a powdered wig - and he lived to the age of 84.
---
Possibly also the same Charles Lloyd as mentioned by John Almon on page 79 in 'Biographical, Literary, and Political Anecdotes, of Several of the Most Eminent Persons of the Present Age. Never Before Printed. With an Appendix; ... By the Author of Anecdotes of the Late Earl of Chatham. In Three Volumes' (T. N. Longman, and L. B. Seeley, 1797) - as the portrait image shows.
