About Henry Mundy, Free Settler "Vibilia" 1831

Henry Mundy migrated to Australia to teach music at Ellen Thorpe Hall in Hobart in 1831. He was also a painter, active in creating portraits of locals and of Australian landscapes. He married one of his students, Lavinia Lord. During the economic slump of the 1840s, he was forced to turn to farming -- saddened by the need to the give up his art. On 24 March 1848, Mundy was found dead at the Ship Hotel, Hobart Town, having killed himself by drinking a tumbler-full of laudanum. More here: http://bit.ly/zTNv0J.
