182. Hephzibah /6 {Nathaniel /5 Daniel, /4 John /3, Lot, /2 Roger /1), b. 3 Feb., 1760, in Beverly; m. Tobias, son of Capt. Tobias Lord, as his second wife (his first was Mehitable Scammon). Tobias Lord was b. in Wells ; he was a lieutenant in the Revolutionary army, under Capt. Joseph Littlefield, at Burgoyne's surrender, 1777. Li 1778 he went to Kennebunk, Me., built a store and engaged in trade and ship building. He moved to Alfred in 1803, returned to Kennebunk in 1808, and died suddenly Jan. 16, 1808, at the house of his daughter, Mrs. Francis Watts.

i. Mehitable, b. 1782, in Kennebunk; m. Francis O. Watts.

ii. Abigail, b. 1785; m. Charles W. Williams, of Kennebunk. Children: 1. Capt. William; 2. Capt. Charles, m. Diantha Fiske; 8. Capt. Claudius; 4. Capt. Albert; 5. Capt. Tobias; (3. Rev. Francis; 7. Abigail; 8. Harriet, m. Dr. Sawyer, of Fort Wayne, Ind. ; 9. Serena, m. Rev. George Campbell, of Millbury, Mass., and had Serena, and Lucy, who m. a iiephew of George Peabody, the philanthropist.

iii. Hephzibah, b. 1787; m. Robert Waterston, a merchant of Boston; had: 1. Rev. Robert C, a LTnitarian minister, who m. a dr. of Josiah Quincy; 2. Helen; 3. Lucy; 4. Mariah, who m. George C. Lord (her cousin).

iv. Betsey, b. 1790; m. Francis O. Watts (his second wife), of Boston.

V. George, b. 23 Sep., 1791; m. 23 Apr., 1816, Olive Jefferds, dr. of William and Olive (Gilpatrick) Jefferds. Children: 1. Hannah C, b. 1817; 2. Lucy Hayes, b. 1819, d. y.; 3. Olive, b. 1821, d. y.; 4. George Clement, b. 1823, of Newton, Mass., m. 1846, Marion Waterston, and has Kobert, Marion, Caroline and Charles E. Mr. Lord has been for a number of years past. President of the Boston and Maine Railroad; .5. Charles Howard, b. 182-5; 6. Edward Watts, b. 1830.

vi. Ivory, b. 1793; m. (1) Louisa, dr. of Hugh McCulloch; (2) Olive (Bourne) Emerson. Children: 1. Ivoi-y; 2. Augusta; 3. Louisa, m. Joseph Dane, jr., of Kennebunk.

vii. Francis A., b. ; m. Francis Smith.

viii. Lucy, b. 1797; m. Hercules M. Haye.s, of New York city.

ix. William, b. 1799; m. Sarah, dr. of Col. Daniel Cleaves, of Saco. Children: 1. William; 2. Hartley; 3. Sarah; 4. Mary; 5. Betsey, m. Francis O. Watts, of Boston, and has Francis, a lawyer, of Boston, and Augusta.

Roger Conant,

Baptized April 9, 1592, at East Budleigh, Devonshire, Eng. ; married Sarah Horton, November 11, 161 8, at London, Eng.; died at Beverly, Mass., November 19, 1679. He arrived at Plymouth in July, 1623, and was Governor of the Massachusetts Colony at Cape Ann, 1624-26.

Lot Conant,

Son of Roger and Sarah (Horton) Conant, born about 1624, at Nantasket or Cape Ann; married Elizabeth Walton in 1649 ; died at Beverly, September 29, 1674.

John Conant,

Son of Lot and Elizabeth (Walton) Conant, born December 15, 1652, at Beverly; married Bethiah Mansfield, May 7, 1678, at Lynn; died at Beverly, September 30, 1724.

Daniel Conant,

Son of John and Bethiah (Mansfield) Conant, born November 19, 1694, at Beverly; married Lucy Dodge, January 23, 17 16-17, at Hamilton, Mass.; died at Beverly in April, 1751.

Nathaniel Conant,

Son of Daniel and Lucy (Dodge) Conant, born July 23, 1726, at Beverly; married Abigail Dodge, December 16, 1756, at Beverly. Moved to Alfred, Me., about 1766, where he died January 6, 1808.

Hephzibah Conant,

Daughter of Nathaniel and Abigail (Dodge) Conant, born at Beverly, February 3, 1760, baptized March 16, 1760; died at Alfred, October 23, 1818; married Lieut. Tobias Lord, son of Capt. Tobias Lord, Novmber 7, 1781, at Alfred, as his second wife.

Married December 25, 1810, at Alfred, Robert Water- ston, son of Robert and Helen (Cassie) Waterston. Born February 12, 1778, at Edinburgh, Scot- land. Died August 30, 1869, at Boston.

Elizabeth Lord,

Born 1790, at Kennebunk.

Died January 10, 1846, at Boston.

Married October 24, 18 13, at Alfred, as his second wife, Francis Watts, son of Dr. Edward and Mary (Oxnard) Watts ; he had previously married her sister, Mehitable (i) Lord.

Born 17S0, at Portland.

Died April 6, 1745, at Boston.

4. George /6 Lord,

Born September 23, 1791, at Kennebunk. Died October 8, 1 861, at Kennebunk.

Married April 22, 18 16, at Kennebunk, Olive Jefferds, daughter of Major William and Olive (Gilpatrick) Jefferds.

Born December 21, 1793, at Kennebunk. Died July 4, 1879, at Newton, Mass.

Died November 6, 1823, at Boston.

Married September 10, 1818, at Kennebunk, Hercules M. Hayes.

Born July 3, 1799, at Kennebunk. Died March 2, 1873, at Kennebunk.

Married October 23, 1820, Sarah Cleaves, daughter of David and Sarah (Fairfield) Cleaves.

Born November 30, 1801, at Biddeford, Me. Died December 19, 1855, at Kennebunk.

7. Francis Augustus /6 Lord,

Born March, 1806, at Alfred. Died September 2, 1839.

Married October, 1856, Lydia Frances Smith, daugh- ter of Benjamin and Lucy (Dutch) Smith.

חֶפְצִי־בָּה Hephzibah

Means "my delight is in her" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament she is the wife of King Hezekiah of Judah and the mother of Manasseh.
