Tobias Lord, born 1748, Arundel.In his youth, it was his daily task for a considerable length of time to drive the ox team loaded with lumber from one point of the woods to another, where wolves were exceedinglt numerous and troublesome, and as he was fr equently obliged to beat them off with a club, his courage and strength were all that prevented himself and hiss beats from being devoured.. June 26, 1776, he was commissioned second LT. of captain Morgan Lewis'Twelfth Company, Col. Ebenezer Sayer's First Regiment and also 2nd LT of Captain James Littlefield's Company. Lt Tobias Lord settled in Kennebunk, where he became a properous merchant, an enterprising ship builder and a prominent citizen. He died suddenly in 1808

A 2nd Lieutenant in the York County militia during the Revolutionary War. He was part of the militia sent to reinforce the Northern Army in August 1777. He was at the surrender of General Borgoyne at Saratoga, NY in October 1777.
Grave stone reads: Scared To The Memory Of Mr. TOBIAS LORD Obt. Jan. 16, 1808 Aet 59. A Distinguished merchant who rose to eminence by virtuous industry, the fruit of which he liberally distributed to assist the enterprising yeomanry. Kennebunk, the scene of his activity, will long mourn the loss of a patron, and society regret the departure of one of god's noblest works - an honest man.
The actual name of the cemetery is First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church which is adjacent to Hope Cemetery.

- Note; The town was called Arundel from its foundation in 1717, until February 19, 1821, when its name was changed to Kennebunkport. Kennebunk was set off from Wells, June 24, 1820.
