About Herbert Lewis Thompson {Australian WW1 ANZAC - KIA}

Pte. H.L. Thompson enlisted in the AIF in 1916 as a 22 year old. He had belonged to the Railton Rifle Club and was a member of the Citizen Forces for four years. Herbert was sent to Scotland and England, where he went AWOL at one point. Next he was sent to fight in France where he served with 26/40th Batt. He was wounded multiple times in 1918 but it was pneumonia that lead to his death in November of the same year. Herbert's war record can be viewed online through the National Archives of Australia.
