Herod Turner was the 8th child born to Jeremiah and Rachel (Ross) Turner. Between 1814-1818 the family moved from Henry Co., VA to Cumberland Co., KY. On 3-10-1827 in (probably) Patrick Co., VA, he married Ruth Joyce. She was born in VA. She died early and date is unknown at this time. On 11-9-1836 in (probably) Cumberland Co., KY, he married Jane H. (Boone) Luckett. Her first husband was John Luckett who died by 1835. John and Jane had two children: Nancy W. and William B. Herod helped raise these two. Herod and Jane had 6 children: Napoleon Bonapart, Hughlett W., James A., Quintilla Bell, Rachel Ross, and George Ferdinand. The first five were born in Cumberland Co., KY. In 1850 the family moved from Cumberland Co., KY to Izard Co., AR. George was born in Izard Co., AR. Herod was a farmer and a blacksmith. Herod died in Rocky Bayou, Izard Co., AR of typhoid fever.

(I believe this Stephen Smith is actually the son of John M. Smith, who was married to Rachel Packwood, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Turner Packwood.
Elizabeth Turner married Samuel Packwood in Virginia.
Rachel married John M. Smith Oct. 20, 1802 in Patrick County, VA.
They moved to Scottsville, Green County, Illinois, having received a letter from Samuel and Elizabeth.
John Smith died in Green County, ILL in 1858, and Rachel died in Cumberland County, KY in 1835.
