About Hezekiah Sellards

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/r/e/Clara-Preston-OH/G...

Hezekiah3 Sellards (Peter John2, Peter John1) was born 1732 in Ulster, Ireland, and died Unknown in Virginia. He married Jean Brevart Abt. 1752, daughter of John Brevart and Wife Brevart. She was born Abt. 1734 in Maryland, and died Unknown.

Notes for Hezekiah Sellards:

Per the book "Appalachia Crossroads" published in 1987 by Clayton R. Cox, there were over 15,000 descendants of Hezekiah Sellards at the time the book was written.

There is controversy & speculation that Hezekiah's wife was a Cherokee Indian since no marriage records can be found. Other researchers feel it is unlikely, since that would have made the children "half-breeds" that were not socially acceptable during that time. Still others believe that he married Jean Brevart.

It was believed that Hezekiah's family suffered from both religious and political persecution and left Ireland for the shores of America in 1732. Some researchers list Hezekiah as being born in Strausburg, Virginia. It was reported that Hezekiah did not like crowded living conditions and lived twenty miles from his nearest neighbor.

Note: Hezekiah SELLARDS

No prove has ever been located in marriage records for Hezekiah to the daughter of John Brevard. There are many that subscribe to the theory and is only speculation that John was his father-in-law because Hezekiah's daughter Jenny gave her son Adam the middle name of Brevard.

Little is known of the parents of Catherine Sellards. Hezekiah Sellards, her father, despite his prominence as a frontiersman, eluded the records in the areas where he lived. The traditional story is that his family migrated from Scotland to Ulster, Ireland, and that Helekiah left Ireland for America in 1732. It is thought that Hezekiah's father was Peter John Sellards, Jr, the son of Irishman Peter John Sellards who came to America about 1700. Where Hezekiah landed or by what ship he came on is not known.

Imigrated from Scotland to Ireland, then to America in 1732
