Hiel Brockway

FOUNDER OF BROCKPORT,NY

Hiel Brockway, 1st child of Gamaliel Brockway and Azubah Peck, was b. Apr. 16,1775; m. with PHEBE MERRILL, who was b. at Killingworth, now Clinton, Conn., on Nov. 3,1774, and d. Aug. 19,1851. They settled at Brockport , NY., which took its name from him. "He was an enterprising citizen with a great amount of push. He was a noted canal man, and owned a line of packets between Rochester and Buffalo."

Children were: Augustus (1799), Charles (10/26/1800), Elias (8/28/1802), Alice (3/5/1804), Edward (9/25/1905), Ira (1807), Mary Ann (8/18/1808), Azubah (3/15/1810), Hiel Jr. (8/30/1811), Phebe (3/4/1813), Maria (9/9/1814), Nathan (4/5/1816), and Julia (1/24/1818).
