Higgason Grubbs is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A048044.

Higgason Grubbs, the son of William Grubbs Susanna Hearne was a private in the Virginia Militia in the American Revolutionary War. [1] He was born in Albemarle County, Virginia between 1745 and 1750.

He married Lucy Harris daughter of James Harris about 1765.

Children of Higgason Grubbs and Lucy Harris include:

  1. William Grubbs
  2. Mourning Grubbs m. Squire Boone, son of George Boone
  3. John Grubbs (1786-1872), d. March 27th, 1872 in Logan County, Ky., aged about 86; married (1) Lucy Gooch, daughter of Thomas and Lucy (Grubbs) Gooch. She died in Mercer County, Ky. prior to 1819, quite a young woman, John Grubbs married (2) Miss Fort; (3) Miss Chastien; and (4) Miss Morgan.
  4. Thomas Grubbs (1775-1859); (who was the eldest son) m. 28 November 1798, Kate Howard, daughter of Benjamin and Rebecca (Turner) Howard.
  5. James Grubbs (1781-1820);, married Polly Oldham.
  6. Jesse Grubbs (1794-1858), m. 24 Dec. 1818, Nancy Oldham, a daughter of Captain John and Annis (Rice) Oldham. Jesse Grubbs was in the War of 1812. They moved to Montgomery Co. Ky. and made their home there until their deaths.
  7. Nancy L (Grubbs) Boone (1771-1835);
  8. Lucy Grubbs (1777-1824)

Higgason and Lucy Grubbs were among the first settlers at Fort Boonesborough. Their names, along with hundreds of others, are engraved on an historical monument which stands outside the entrance of Fort Boonesborough State Park near Richmond in Madison County, Kentucky. Erected in 1981 by the Members of the Society of Boonesborough the monument is , "Dedicated by their descendants to the sacred memory of the brave pioneers who entered the wilderness of what later became Kentucky and formed the settlement known as Boonesborough, first fortified settlement in Kentucky. We honor these, among the first families of Kentucky." [2] The Grubbs names are listed in alphabetical order on side 2 of the monument as follows:

Higgason died 30 June 1830 in Madison County, Kentucky, United States and was buried at the Higgason Grubbs Family Graveyard in Madison County, Kentucky, United States. His wife Lucy survived him but a short time.
