33—HIGGINSON BELT‘ (9), received a grant of Spring Garden, near Latonsville, in present Montgomery county, Md., 1738 ( Scharf’s Hist. W. Md., p. 652) 23 Feb., 1781, “through principles of conscience,” he freed fourteen slaves (Mont. co. land records, A., p. 401). He bequeathed, 15 July 1786, to his wife, Sarah, the household furniture and a third of his personal estate; the remainder of his personal estate to his sons, John, Carlton and Higginson, and his daughter, Becky Peddicord; to his son John (sole executor), all of his real estate, subject to the payment of legacies to said children and his grandchildren, Westley and Higginson, sons of his deceased son Greenberry. The will was proved 15 Nov., 1788 (Mont. co. Wills, B.. p. 361).
