About Hiram Eurias Edenton, Sr

A lifelong resident of Spotsylvania, Mr. Edenton and his wife, Marie, established Rocky Branch Marina and Campground in the early 1970s.

Mr. Edenton was the son of Lee West Edenton Sr. and Elmira Slachter. The Edenton family has resided in Spotsylvania since the 1780s.

Mr. Edenton was a World War II veteran, serving from 1944 to 1950 as a sergeant in Company B of the 143rd Infantry, 36th "Texas" Division, the "T-Patchers." He participated in the Rhineland campaign and the Central Europe campaign in France and Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post 320 in Spotsylvania.

A mason and carpenter by trade, Mr. Edenton built many homes and businesses in the Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg areas. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

His survivors include his wife of 48 years, Marie Grigsby Edenton; his children, James R. Edenton of Richmond, William Edenton Russell, stepson, and his wife, Jill, of Yorktown, and Phillip Matthew Edenton and his wife, Rebecca, Dale Marie Lloyd and her husband, Frank, Gary Max Edenton and his wife, Lynnette, and Rebecca Grigsby Clements and her husband, Ronald, all of Spotsylvania; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He also is survived by brothers and sisters, Lee West Edenton Jr. and Rosalie Dunnivan, both of Spotsylvania, Anne Hall and her husband, Earl, of Fredericksburg, and Campbell Edenton and Shelby Hill, both of Spotsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Hiram E. Edenton Jr., who was killed in Vietnam in Sept. 1970, at the age of 20, and Howard Lee Edenton, who was killed in an automobile accident in June 1972, at the age of 16; and three grandchildren.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Sep 23 2020, 15:08:32 UTC
