About Holland Vanderpool
GEDCOM Note
[BBrock.FTW]
Holland Vanderpool came to Ray County Missouri with his parents, John and Ellender Meadors Vanderpool in about 1815. They were the first non-Indian family to settle in what became Ray Couty, Mo. and was then named, Buffalo Settlement. He would have been around nine years of age and have lived the early pioneer lifestyle. The first school sessions were not held until 1819 by Holland's elder brother, Meadors, so Holland's education would have been limited. The family located on the Crooked River, in the southern part of the county. Holland was a faithful member of the Old School Baptist Church for over forty years. He did not go to Oregon as did his brothers Meaddors, Kinman and John. He did not serve in the Civil War but remained in Ray County. He was a farmer by occupation, probably having received a land grant.
The following is found in Ray County Court Records: State of Missouri: County of Ray Be it remembered that on this fourteenth day of August 1832 pernaolly came Holland VANDERPOOL and maid oath that he killed a woolf in May last on the watter of Willar in Richmond township the scalp of he presented to me with both ears on and was qualified according to law for which he is intitted to fifty cents according to an ordinance of the County Cort of Ray county passed in 1832. Given under my hand this day and date above written. Jos. H. Ball J.P.
