

Homer Theodore Blake, 89, of Longview, died July 17, 2005. He was born October 28, 1915 in Harding, South Dakota to Homer Thomas & Rachael Josephine Blake. Ted lived in the local area for 54 years, coming from Vancouver. Ted graduated in 1935 from Rhame High School in Rhame, North Dakota. On April 10, 1939 he married Edith Mamie Coles in Watford City, North Dakota. After 65 years of marriage, she preceded him in death. He served in the US Army 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles, Company E 506th PIR. This was the subject of Stephen Ambrose's "Band of Brothers". He participated in "Operation Market Garden" & the liberation of Holland.
Ted worked at Weyerhaeuser Company, Kraft mill, TSV operations. He was a member of the AWPPW, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans. Ted enjoyed fishing, gardening, and riding his motorcycle. He was always happy and never complained. Ted had a good sense of humor, was a hard worker and was always willing to help someone. He was very devoted to his family. Ted leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna & Ron Beggs of Scottsdale, Arizona and Rhonda & Mitch Handley of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis & Bonnie Blake of Chehalis; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Craig) Bradley of Chandler, Arizona, Katie Handley of Scottsdale, Arizona and Sara (Chris) Doggett of Melrose, Massachusetts; and three grandsons, Jordan Handley of Longview, Brian (Mary) Beggs of Aloha, Oregon and Chad Blake of Chehalis. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park.
Viewing will take place today from 9am to 5pm at Columbia Funeral Service and Thursday at Steele Chapel prior to the service. Burial will take place at Longview Memorial Park.
