≤p>Bio: The Decatur Herald - Decatur, IL. Saturday, July 30, 1921CLINTON HONORS DEAD SOLDIER.American Legion to conduct funeral of Homer HickmanClinton, Ill., July 29. -- The body of Private Homer G. Hickman, Clinton boy, who died of wounds during the World War I, were shipped from Weehawken, J.J., yesterday, according to a telegram received here today by his brother, W. O. Hickman. The body will arrive here tonight or Saturday. As soon as the body arrives it will be taken to the Pullen Chapel, where it will remain until Sunday, when it will be taken to the Christian Church, where services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 O'Clock. Rev. R. L. Cartwright, Pastor, will officiate. Full military honors will be paid, The American Legion post being in charge. Interment will be in Cerro Gordo.Young Hickman enlisted in the army in May, 1918, at Camp Gordon, GA. He was assigned to Company H, Three Hundred and Thirty-First Infantry and received sailing orders July 14. He saw service on the front line trenches, and on October 5, 1918, he was mortally wounded and died the following day. In the brief time that he lived after he was at the front, he was in the most terrific fighting of the war. He participated in the battle of the Argonne, and 10,000 men of Hickman's division were killed during that fight.Hickman was the son of Mr. & Mrs. W. E. Hickman of Orchard Farm, MO. before leavingto answer his country's call, he was associated in business in this city with his brother, W. O. Hickman.
