About Hon. Charles Dickey
Arrived in Marshall in 1836 and was a manufacturer of fanning mills for the winnowing of chaff from grain. Elected Calhoun County Sheriff in 1844, served in the state senate (1849-53), organized the State Agricultural Society of which he became president. In 1861, he was appointed a U. S. Marshall and served as Lincoln's bodyguard at both inaugurations and at the Gettysburg Address. In 1873 he became Probate Judge of Calhoun County.
