Biographical Summary

"Eldest son of Colonel Alexander Monypenny of Pitmilly, passed advocate 2d July 1791; was appointed Sheriff-Depute of the county of Fife, 7th February 1807; Solicitor-General, 22d February 1811; and advanced to the bench 25th February 1813, in the rooms of Lord Woodhouselee, whom he also succeeded as a Lord of Justiciary. His Lordship was nominated one of the Lords Commissioners of the Jury Court, 13th June 1815, at the original constitution of that Court. He resigned his offices in October 1830."

"David Monypenny, Esq. of Pitmilly, J.P. and D.L., b. May, 1769, who was formerly sheriff of Fifeshire, and afterwards, successively, solictor-general of Scotland, and one of the Lords of Session as Lord Pitmilly. He m. Sept. 1810, Maria-Sophia, 3rd dau. of Sir George Abercrombie, 4th Bart. of Birkenbog; and dying s.p., was s. by his brother."
