About Hon. Frances Sackville

Frances Sackville was the daughter of Richard Sackville, the Earl of Dorset & his wife Frances Cranfield.

She married firstly in 1673, as his third wife to George Lane, 1st Viscount Lanesborough. They had an only daughter Frances in 1674.

George died in 1683 & in 1692, she married Denny Muschamp as his third wife.She continued to be known as the Dowager Viscountess Lanesborough after this marriage. Denny died in 1799 & she died 21 Jan 1721/1722.

I, Denny Muschamp of the Pall Mall in the county of Middlesex, Esq
being in perfect understanding at this time doe make this my last
will and testament in manner following. In the first place, I revoke
all former wills by me made and annull them. Item, I doe confirm
my marriage settlement with my dear wife the Right Honorable
the Lady Lanesborough in every particular whereby I have little or
nothing to give, my intention of nameing the settlement herein is to
show that as my mind then was of giving her Ladyship all I had

After the death of his first wife, Muschamp married, in 1692, Frances, Viscountess Lanesborough (d. 1722). She was daughter of Richard Sackville, 5th earl of Dorset, and his wife, Frances Sackville (née Cranfield), widow of George Lane (qv), 1st Viscount Lanesborough. There were four children of the first marriage: three sons who predeceased their father, and Muschamp's daughter and heir, Mary (d. 1746), who married her cousin Thomas, Archbishop Vesey's eldest son.

Muschamp died 20 December 1699. His papers survive among the De Vesci papers, now in the NLI, which has some other items relating to his property interests and lawsuits.

Lady Frances, Dowager Viscountess Lanesborough purchased manors and lands in Cobham, Surrey from the Gavell and Smither families (representing the ancestral Bigley, Sutton and Downe or Adowne patrimonies associated with Chertsey Abbey) in 1708 and 1720,[6] and died in January 1721/22.
