About Hon. Morgan Ringland Wise
Hon. Morgan R. Wise, who represented Greene county in the legislature and the twenty-first district in Congress some years ago, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lucy W. Hill, at Stoops Ferry, near Pittsburgh, Pa., on Monday, April 13.
Mr. Wise was born in West Bethlehem townhip, Washington county, June 7, 1825. He was twice married, his second wife being Miss Catherine, daughter of Jesse Hook, deceased.
He was twice elected to the legislature to represent Greene county, serving from 1874 to 1878; and represented the Twenty-first Congressional District composed of Greene, Fayette and Westmoreland counties, two terms, being a member of the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congress. After retiring from Congress he and his son Joseph went to Arizona, where they purchased a ranch. He was later appointed consul, or customs officer, at a town in Mexico, near El Paso.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, J. H. Wise, Esq., of Pittsburg and Joseph, of Arizona, and one daughter, Mrs. Lucy W. Hill, of Stoops Ferry, Pa.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Sep 11 2019, 21:21:03 UTC
