Horace Burras Royce, Jr

"Horace Burras Royce Jr oldest son of Horace B. & Sarah Judd Royce Sr went with his parents from Irasburg Vt to Genesee Co N.Y. then on to Burlington and Janesville Wis. The frontier was not conducive to a good education and being the oldest son of the family took a leading part in the life and fortunes of the family. In 1860 they moved to Poweshiek Co Iowa and on Jan 1 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Marianne Okey of Arlington Bureau Co. Ill. daughter of Mary Leach & John Okey. She was born Feb 13 1843 March Cambridgeshire England. Came to America when 6 yrs of age. She attended public schools Ill. and had 2 yrs at Dover Academy at Dover Ill and taught several terms of school. Immediately after marriage they went to Malcom Iowa, Poweshiek Co to their farm where their entire life was spent. Mrs. Royce was a consistent and loyal member of the Presbyterian Church at Malcom, commending the principles of the Gospel by her daily walk & life she passed away Mar 19 1903. Mr. Royce was earnest in his efforts and his business capacity and sound judgement were proven by his attainments. His wife was indeed a helpmeet to him and together they made a home which radiated influences for good. He passed away Mar 11 1896. Their children were all born near Malcom, Ia."
