Howard Walter Seay was convicted and served 5 years in prison for the murder of S. D. Beach after the murders of Fred Measday and 12 days later, Beach in Alpine, Texas in 1916. See the attached sources for the newspaper accounts.
Seay was convicted of the murder of Beach by circumstantial evidence. The two men had quarreled in public and testimony of witnesses swayed a jury of 4 for acquittal and 8 for conviction into finally agreeing to conviction and a 5 year sentence.
The murder of Measday was apparently never solved.
