About Hugh B Caudill
Civil War Veteran:
Hugh enlisted in Company A of the 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, at age 35, on 8 October 1861.
A Company was referred to as the Laurel Spring or Springs Guard, He enlisted in Ashe County where he resided at the time.
He was mustered out on 19 March 1863 at Camp Gregg, near Fredericksburg, Virginia due to severe wounds in some unrecorded battle. Camp Gregg was located near Fredericksburg, Virginia and the battle of Fredericksburg was fought December 11-15 in and around Fredericksburg. This is the most likely battle where he received his wounds.

Hugh was born May 1826 in North Carolina and lived in Alleghany County in the 1860 Census.
He was the son of Jesse P. Caudill & Sarah 'Sary' Roberts.
Hugh was the husband of Elizabeth Blevins

Sometime between 1860 and 1870 census he resided in Tazewell County, Virginia.
Hugh’s last entry in a census report was 1900 when his daughters Sallie and Nancy Jane, as well as a grandson and a grand-daughter Abel were in his household.
Date of death was found in the records kept by Mattie Lou Hilt Holmes that documented deaths, marriages,and other events in the community.
