Hugh L. Lavender b: 1778(?) d: 4 Sep 1836 married Jane Hopper b. 27 Apr 1799-d: 6 Dec 1846 (a daughter of Sally Dial Hopper) on Dec. 12, 1824 in Greene Co., Alabama (Alabama Soldiers, Vol. 16, p. 39 and Early Alabama Marriages, p. 49; in FHL Library, Salt Lake City.
In around 1822, Hugh Levi Lavender (and brother John L. Lavender) had moved to Greene County, Alabama, which was opening up following expulsion of Indian tribes to further west.
A Federal Land Patent there is deeded to Hugh L. Lavender of Greene County, Feb. 18, 1825, for Greene County T22N - R5E, the W½NW¼ Sec. 4. In Bureau of Land Management records (see link above), it is indexed as Hale County, which was later carved out of Greene. In BLM Tract Books, which record payment of taxes, it is listed in Greene Col. (Vol. 81, Greenville, Image 222 of 269).
At the sale of Hugh Levi Lavender's Estate in 1844, "Negro man Robbin" -- presumably Bob, a young person inherited from Hugh Levi's father in 1834 -- went with Hugh Levi's widow, Jane Hopper Lavender ($600). Five other people went with other family members:

On Image 662 in the same online file, the initial Property/Inventory Appraisement of 1836 appears, stating "1 Negro man $1300, boy $900, woman & child $1200."

A different Hugh Levi Lavender appears in Early Alabama Marriages, p. 49; in FHL Library, Salt Lake City, marrying Ruth Ford on Dec. 29, 1919 in Sumter Col, Alabama. He also appears in the Greene County, AL 1930 census, Mantua area. In his household are 2 males and 2 females age 0-5, one male age 20-29 and a female 20-29 (his wife).
