From Judge Massey's book "Massey Genealogy" p 95 we find " It is from this line that Hugh Massey, Irish Baronet, was descended. His ARMS, however, were a derivation of those of the Masseys of Sale, a family converted to the Protestant cause as was this Baronet. About 1648 he appeared before Roberts, Ulster King of ARMS, and, in part his affidavit recited: "I, Hugh Massey, Esquire came into Ireland with a pincipal command in the army sent to surpress the rebellion, Anno 1641.... and to have served with distinguished bravery and reputation, in martial employment, both of horse and foot, for the space of seven years last past."
The line in question was that which ran from Hugh who married Anne/Agnes Bold, daughter of Sir Nicholas Bold, through his son Nicholas, his son Thomas, and then the Hugh of Ulster.
Thomas had a brother, William de Coddington.
Hugh had the following brothers: Thomas, Nicholas of Ely, Alexander of London and Manchester, and James.
