Hugo Henry Kalli
Hugo Henry Kalli, 97, of Cromwell, died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at Bayshore Health Center in Duluth. He was born in Sparta, Minn., on Aug. 17, 1906 to Kalle and Alexandra Kalli. He married Helen Alina Pukari in Cromwell on Nov. 30, 1933. Hugo attended schools in Crosby and Cromwell. He graduated from the Hanson Auto School in Fargo, N.D. In 1937 he and his family moved to Kingston, Minn., and then to Darwin, Minn., where he owned and operated a garage for about eight years. He moved to Esko in 1945 where he farmed. Hugo worked as a welder for U.S. Steel in Duluth for 20 years. He was a retired member of Steel Workers Union Local 1028. He moved back to Cromwell by Eagle Lake in Dec. 1973. Hugo enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, woodworking and reading. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Karl; two sisters, Dagmar and Inkeri; and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife, Helen; three sons, Clayton (Linda) of Thermopolis, Wyo., Dennis (Janet) of Esko and Rick of Bloomington, Minn.; three daughters, Joyce (Jim) Hopkins and Phyllis (Dick) Henderson both of Anchorage, Alaska and Carol (Mike) Bergstedt of Golden, Colo.; 13 grandchildren;13 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. VISITATION:12 noon Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, until the 1 p.m. funeral service in Bethany Lutheran Church, Cromwell. Interment will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery, Eagle Township. Obituary
Helen Alina Kalli, 92, formerly of Cromwell and Esko, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at her home in Cloquet. She was born November 18, 1912 in Kalevala Township to Oscar and Amanda Pukari. Helen grew up in Kettle River area and was a 1932 graduate of Cromwell High School. She married Hugo Kalli on November 30, 1933 in Cromwell. Helen was a member of the Young Old Timers, Lutheran Brotherhood and the Rachel Circle at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking, gardening, reading and was an excellent seamstress making many clothes without using any pattern. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo on August 1, 2004; a brother, George Pukari and a sister, Martha Hill. Helen is survived by three sons, Clayton (Linda) of Thermopolis, WY, Dennis (Janet) of Esko and Richard of Edina; three daughters, Joyce (James) Hopkins and Phyllis (Richard) Henderson both of Anchorage, Alaska, Carol (Michael) Bergstedt of Golden, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, nephews and their children. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 5, 2005 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Spring interment will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery, Eagle Township, MN.
