About Hemoata Huihana Kereopa
Huihana or Huhana was the last born child of George Terewhare Leaf and his first wife Mereana Te Namu Otene from Mangamuka. Huihana married Paetau Kereopa who was a descendant from 'Te Whare o Kerewhiti'. This marriage brought forth four children.
The first born was Te Kōpaki, also known as Paki who married Rihi Wiremu from Manaia in the Coromandel/Hauraki region and their marriage produced a family of nine children. Paki remarried after Rihi passed away in 1932 to Josephine Te Tuhi. There was no issue from this union.
The second born child was Davis who's name comes from the Davis whānau from the northern side of the Hokianga harbour at Motukaraka. Davis married Te Aroha Pirihi from Takahiwai. This marriage produced eight children.
The third born child was Lucy, who died of Bronchitis and Pneumonia at the age of 21 and left no issue.
The last born child was Hamiora who followed his cousin Harding Waipuke Leaf to fight in the World War II. Hamiora died of war wounds in Crete and like his cousin he not return home.
Huihana and Paetau are buried in the Makeru Urupā with many other Kereopa whānau members next to the old Catholic Church above the Mātai Aranui marae on Wikaira Road in Whirinaki.
