Note on Hulda Harper by Del Proudfoot, 2nd great grandson of Joshua and Hulda Proudfoot:

"We now have strong circumstantial evidence that Joshua's 1st wife, my great great GM, was Hulda Harper, not Mucklevaney. Hulda 's mother's maiden name was McVaney. The Harpers lived on the nearest farm to Alexander and Elizabeth Cole Proudfoot (Census documented) and Hulda was Joshua's approximate age. We have not confirmed this with a Marriage certificate or death certificate, but we do have a hand written note from my grandfather that says his grandmother was a Harper. We think that the mistaken name of Joshua's 1st wife has been around so long, it is held as gospel, but wrong. If you have opportunity we would appreciate your coinciding research. Thanks"

Update: We had heard that Muckelvaney was Hulda's name, a distortion of McVaney. We tried to stop that name, but people keep replicating it. It was confusing to us because we knew McVaney (actually McVey) was on marriage license, but we knew Dianna McVaney had married John Harper. We just put it together tonight! Dianna had Hulda in 1938, 2 years BEFORE she married John Harper. We think it was an illegitimate birth, hence the name McVaney on Hulda's marriage certificate. John was 35 and Dianna 23 when married.
