Humphrey left Salem in 1728, and settled in South Brimfield (now Wales), Massachusetts. He purchased a tract of land from Nathaniel Munger where he resided the remainder of his life. In his day, and generation, he was considered one of the most trust-worthy and capable people of South Brimfield.
He married Dorothy Munger on Apr. 4, 1739, and they raised a family of 10 children.
He was a man of high standing and character, and among the public offices he filled was that of Chairman of the Board of Selectmen of South Brimfield.
