About Humphrey Newman, of Wincanton
The visitation of the county of Somerset in the year 1623 records "Humphrey Newman of Wyncaunton" living in 1623, son of Richard Newman of Queen Camell and Agatha, daughter of Humphrey Poole of Poltansborough, Co. Som, husband of "Dorothie, daughter of Sir Thomas Phillipps of Burington" Co. Som, and father of:
- Thomas, son and heir aged 13 in 1623 ( b.c.1610 )
- Richard
- Humphrey
- Elizabeth
- Dorothie
- Jane
- Agatha
Various Newman trees record that Humphrey Newman of Wincanton died in 1663, apparently without a male heir, and the advowsans passed to his second cousin, Richard Newman of Fifehead Magdalen Manor. His 2nd son Richard was still living in 1663, but may have forfeited his inheritance having already settled in Ireland. His other two sons might have already died without heirs by this time.
