Hupert was the son of Yelles (Julius) Cassel and Elizabeth Jansen. Hupert married Magdalena Wisler Johnson on 9 Jun 1774. Hupert and Magdalena had ten children: Hupert, Elizabeth, Magdalena, Catharine, Yelles, George, Anna, Daniel, Abraham and Jacob.

Hubert was a Revolutionary War Veteran. He was a Private in the Philadelphia County Militia. He is listed on page 626 of the 1956 edition of the Pennsylvania SAR Book.
