Hur was bron on May 16, 1767 to John Hodgson and Mary (Mills) Hodgson in Cane Creek, North Carolina. He died on February 6, 1851, in Clinton County, Ohio and was buried in Center Cemetery near Wilmington, Ohio.
Hur had 9 siblings and he was born 7th.
Hur first married Elizabeth Thornburg. She died and left him with two children. Hur then married Achsah Dillon on May 18, 1798.
Following quoted from Mary Elizabeth (Wilson) (Stewart) Robbins:
"The story the Petersons (present owners of the old Hur Hodgson homeplace in Ohio) told us about he Hodson family went like this: It was l804 when Hur Hodson brought one of his sons to southwestern Ohio, Clinton County and bought land. They said the boy's name was Joel, but his son Joel was not born until later in Ohio. We believe it to have been his son Isaac, by his first wife. They said he was just a boy. Isaac would have been only twelve years old at that time.
Hur bargained for the land and he and the boy built a small shack. Hur left the boy with only a gun, a dog and an ax, and went back to North Carolina for the winter. In the spring, he brought the rest of his family and all of his possessions and came back to his land in Ohio and found the boy alright. He had provided for himself all winter in the wilds."
