About I. Lawrence Kerr
My dad used the name I Lawrence Kerr, DDS. He was a remarkable man who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania both as an undergraduate and from the dental school. He did additional training in oral surgery. He served in the Army Air Force and was stationed in England during the war. We suspect he served in an intelligence role in addition to his role as a dentist. He and my mom moved to Endicott, NY following the war where he built one of the first multispecialty group practices in dentistry. He was a very talented surgeon and an advocate for dental health and dentistry. He helped found the dental program for the Indian Health Service, played a role in creating dental benefits at IBM and served in a number of leadership roles in the local state and national dental associations. He was elected to serve as the President of the American Dental Association in 1973. Dad was always involved in community service and served as an elder of the church, leader in the boy scouts (earning a Silver Beaver service award) and active on numerous hospital and community boards.
Most of all, he was a caring and loving father who challenged his sons to excel, serve and love others.
