Funeral services for Ida J. Harkonen, 88, of Harbor Springs, will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Schiller-Gillian Funeral Chapel, Harbor Springs. The Rev. Jerome Jackson will officiated. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Gladstone. Mrs. Harkonen died June 13, 1984, at Emmet County Medical Care Facility. The former Ida Luoma was born Nov. 30, 1895, in Finland. She moved to the U.S. in 1911 and in 1915 she married John Gust Kortesoja in Kipling, Mich. The couple resided in Kipling for a short time before moving to Kingsford. Mr. Kortesoja died in 1952, and she married John Harkonen in 1960. The couple made their home in Kingsford, and Mr. Harkonen died in 1969. Mrs. Harkonen moved to Harbor Springs in 1971 and resided with her daughter. For the past 10 years, she has been a patient at the Emmet County Medical Care Facility. Mrs. Harkonen was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kingsford. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. John (Ida) Whitmore of Harbor Springs; two sons, Arthur Kortesoja of Ann Arbor and Victor Kortesoja of Burt Lake; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Emmet County Medical Care Facility Auxiliary Fund.
