About Ida Dionitia Osborn

Ida Dionitia Lee was born October 8, 1873, in Panaca, Lincoln, Nevada, to John Nelson Lee and Malissa Keziah Rollins Lee. In the 1880 U.S. Census for Panaca, the family is listed as follows: John N. Lee, 38, Melissa K., 28, and children: Jane E., 10, Ada M., 8, Mary E., 6, John R., 5, James H., 2 and Ida D., 7. Also in their home was Melissa's aunt, Dionitia Walker, 64, sister of Melissa's mother, Eveline Walker Rollins. Ida's father was working as a farmer. He was born in Illinois, his father in Ohio and mother in New Jersey. Melissa was born in California, her father in New York, and her mother in Indiana. Dionitia's father, Oliver Walker, was born in New York, and her mother in New Jersey. All of John and Melissa's children were born in Nevada. They had moved to Nevada from Utah and lived with John's parents for a while before they got their own home. John's mother had owned a hotel in Panaca at the time.

Ida Dionitia Lee married John Franklin Hollingshead in 1895, four years after his first wife, Melvina, passed away just three weeks after their son, Clem, was born in October, 1891. The U.S. and International Marriage Records show that Ida Dionitia Lee was born in 1873 and John in 1868. John was the son of Nelson Stoyell Hollingshead and his second wife, Mary Elizabeth Evans Hollingshead. For several years, Ida and John Franklin Hollingshead lived with Ida's parents in Panaca. In the 1900 U.S. Census for Panaca, they are listed as follows:

John Nelson Lee, 58, Melissa Keziah Rollins Lee, 48, Edessa, 18, Roy, 16, Melvin, 14, Lester, 11, Porter, 8, John Franklin Hollingshead, 34, Ida, 24, and their children Athella, 5, Elmer, 4, and Minnie, 2 years old. This census record indicates that Ida was born in 1875 and not 1873 or 1879. (NOTE: Athella was Ida's daughter by her first husband, Frank Lorin Osborn, Sr.)

By the 1910 U.S. Federal Census for Panaca, John, 43, and Ida, 36, were living on their own with children: Athella M., 16, Elmer J., 14, Minnie, 12, Leo, 10, Golden, 6, James H., 4, and Melba, one year old. John Nelson Lee, 68, and his wife Malissa K., 58, were living next door with their youngest son, Porter Lafayette, 18. John Franklin was working as a farmer and John Nelson Lee as a stock raiser. They both owned their own farms free from a mortgage.

In the 1920 census, John and Ida had moved back to Minersville, Utah. They were listed as: John, 52, Ida, 47, Elmer, 23, Leo, 19, Golden, 16, James, 13, Melba, 10, Garland, 8, and Stanley C., 3 years 1 month old. John was still working as a farmer, and his two sons, Elmer and Leo were working as laborers, Elmer was "working out" and Leo was working "at home". Living next door was John's younger brother, Andrew Jackson Hollingshead, 37, and his wife, Lois, 34, and their children, Nolan, 15, Arshel, 13, Dell, 3 years 7 months, and Keith, 1 year, 4 months old. A.J. Hollingshead was working as a house carpenter.

A few doors down was John Franklin Hollingshead older sister, Mary Elizabeth Hollingshead Clothier, a 57-year old widow, and her son, Andrew Jackson Clothier, 35. Next door to her was Clem Hollingshead, 29, John Franklin's son by his first wife, Melvina, who passed away in 1891. Clem was married to Stella, 29, and their children were Minnie, 7, Lela, 5, and Stella, 2 years, 10 months old. Andrew Clothier was working as a laborer and Clem Hollingshead was working as a miner in a silver mine.

In 1930, the family was still living in Minersville, John Franklin, 63, Ida, 56, and children Golden, 24, James H., 22, Garland, 18, Stanley, 13, and Ida M., 10. John and Ida had been married for 34 years. John was working as a sheep farmer and his son Golden as a school teacher, and James as a laborer on the railroad. Andrew J. Hollingshead, 47, was still living next door with his wife, Lois, 44, and their children, Dell, 13, Keith, 11, Joy, 5, and next door was Mary Clothier, 67, and her son Andrew J., 45. Andrew J. Hollingshead was still working as a laborer in the mines, and Andrew J. Clothier, was working as a farmer.

Sadly, two years later, John Franklin Hollingshead, born May 19, 1868, passed away at the age of 64 years old on January 21, 1932, and was buried in the Minersville Cemetery. Ida moved back to Nevada after her husband John's death, and in the 1940 census was living in Caliente, Lincoln, Nevada, and was listed there as a 65-year old widow, living with her daughter, Ida, 19, and son, James, 33, and his wife, Lola, 33. Ida had one year of college, her daughter, Ida, had 4 years of high school, James had 2 years of high school, and his wife, Lola, 2 years of college. Ida was working as a housekeeper, and James as a railroad car inspector on the steam railroad. For the 52 weeks he worked in 1939 at 48 hours per week his income was $1,200. The family was renting their home for $25.00 per month.

Living nearby was Lorin M. Lee, 29, and his wife, Mabel, 28, and their two sons, Donald, 8, and Jack, 1 year old. Lorin was working as a locomotive fireman for the steam railroad. I believe he was Ida's nephew.

Ida Dionitia Lee Hollingshead passed away October 16, 1959, and was buried in the Minersville Cemetery with her husband, John Franklin Hollingshead.

Ida was married briefly to Frank Lorin Osborn in 1893, Beaver, Utah, per a Western States Marriage Index online from Ancestry.com and Athella Melissa was Frank and Ida's only daughter.
