About Ignaz Isak Wengraf
Ignatz Isak WENGRAF: b. circa 1829, Nikolsburg - d. 21 Jan 1894, Wien
"Kaufmann ...Brandweinerzeuger ... Gemischtwarenhändler ... Beamter d. Neuen Wiener Tagblatt" ... etc.
Exact birth data unfortunately not available either from IKG-Nikolsburg actual records nor even in index BUT information from marriage record provides clear enough evidence that Ignatz, formerly Isak, was born in Nikolsburg in circa 1829, the son of Gerson WENGRAF and -- as the marriage record is written -- Fany geb. SPITZER. (P) The "Fany" can easily be a mis-writing of Hany/Hanni by the individual actually entering the marriage in the record book (DL).
(N.B. This might also explain why the "Jewish" name chosen and given to grandson Friedrich Wilhelm by son Alexander at birth was "Gerson" - cf. the relevant birth certificate ...)

Unclear exactly when Ignaz moved from Nikolsburg to Neulengbach. His 1863 IKG-Wien marriage record notes his place of domicile as being there, the 1864 IKG-Nikolsburg birth record of his first son Alexander actually gives this as the place of birth and the following sources show that he was an active member of the Neulengbach (Jewish and further) community:
Neulengbacher Kulturpfad - pdf.
(N.B. the "damaligen" must refer to 1871 - in 1920 Ignaz WENGRAF was long deceased ...)

WENGRAF IGNAZ 1871
(N.B. two SOFFERs also on list - maybe related to wife Rosalia - whom he may well have first met there ...?)
The births of only four of his children feature in the IKG-Nikolsburg archives with the note that they actually occurred in Neulengbach. Ignaz WENGRAF's profession on these is generally stated as being "Kaufmann in Neulengbach" except for the 1866/1867 ones in which he's described as "Brandweinerzeuger". The mother's first name varies between Rosalia and Theresia (Therese), her last name is also variously spelled as SOFER, SOFFER or even SOPHA & SOPHER. Records not yet traced for his further children. They do not appear in either the IKG-Nikolsburg or the IKG-Wien ledgers (possibly in those of the IKG-St. Pölten if they were born, as may be suspected, all in Neulengbach ...?)

From LEHMANN's Wien address book the valuable indications may be gleaned that Ignaz - and presumably family - moved to Vienna permanently in circa 1883. The first recognisable listing of him (plus eldest son Alexander, still living with his father but starting up a business on his own) here is viewable courtesy of: 1883 WENGRAF listing: 1187 - Weissenstein - Wenzel - Adolph Lehmann's allgemeiner Wohnungs-Anzeiger - Seite - Wienbibliothek - wbr01 - wienbibliothek

Did his "cousin" Moriz WENGRAF, "Chef-Redakteur d. Neuen Wiener Tagblatt", help him to secure employment there?
Already in the year of his death in 1894, his widow is listed:

There are NO records so far to show that Ignaz, himself, had either previously been widowed by the death of his wife "Rosalia" OR that they might have divorced. As the "Therese" who was buried in the same grave as him on her death in 1921 bears an age that correlates exactly with "Rosalia's" DOB, presumably the two are one and the same, having simply changed first name - for whatever reason (as was quite common in those days ...). The varying first name of the mother as shown on the IKG-Nikolsburg birth registrations of certain children clearly of this couple confirms this thesis.
